Stephen Olaoye
Residents and passers-by at the popular and ever-busy Old –Garage, Osogbo Osun State are now happy that the prestigious Dugbe Police Divisional Headquarters has been given a facelift. The police station, which had been in poor condition for over a decade, is now a beauty to behold for many people courtesy of the series of renovation works carried out recently.

Even officers and men of the Osun State Police Command attached to the station, which is one of the oldest in Osogbo, Osun State capital, could not hide their joy over the development.

They are full of thanks and appreciation to the new Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of station, CSP Babatunde Sowole, for turning the fortune of the station around within a short period of time.

Some of the officers who spoke with The New Dawn correspondent in Osogbo maintained that with the renovation of the station, CSP Sowole has demonstrated a good example of leadership within the police force.

“By changing the ugly outlook of our station’s buildings and improving on sanitary condition of the environment within the short time of assuming duty, I salute our oga,” one of the officers commented.

However, when asked why he embarked on the renovation, CSP Babatubde Sowole said making police station conducive is part of the Inspector General of Police IGP Solomon Arase’s agenda in his improved-welfare package for the officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force.

The DPO who maintained further that police officers deserve to be working in a good environment added that in that line, he was only following the footsteps of the Commissioner for Police (CP) in the state, Abubakar Marafa, who he described as a man whose professional virtue worth emulating.

While calling on other officers of the Nigeria Police Force as well as well-meaning individuals to come and support the Nigeria Police in any way they deemed fit, so that the police could serve their various communities better, SUPOL Babatunde Sowole posited that it is the duties of all and sundry to ensure an improved working environment for the police with a view of serving the country better.

“I feel very proud of myself being a police officer whenever I travel to our Force Headquarters in Abuja with the beautiful edifies put in place by the police High Command. I make sure I get a very befitting photograph each time and I think that is how all the divisions in the country should look like. We must ensure that we give all the edifies a facelift if we want to put ourselves in our true position”, Sowole said.

Among the renovation works done by the Superintendent of Police (SUPOL) Sowole are the painting of all the structure within the division as well as the conveniences, erection of a new gate at the entrance of the station as well as painting of the fence and planting of flowers.

Consequently, this stride has started eliciting accolades from different quarter.  The National leader of Harmonized Vigilante Group, Alhaji Hussain Yah-Salam  while exchanging views with our correspondent, he applauded SUPOL Sowole’s gesture calling on other DPOs in the state to emulate him.

According to him, CSP Babatunde Sowole has demonstrated a high sense of loyalty to Osun State, the Nigeria Police Force and the country at large by making sure he gives a conducive working environment to all officers and men of this great division adding that he demands recommendation and good recognition by the Federal Government of Nigeria.

He said, “The Nigeria Police need people like the SUPOL who has out of his own personal money embarked on this laudable project. His act of voluntarism should be part of the daily routine of all Nigerians if we want this country to move from where it is today to another level, and if we want the country to get back her lost glory. Such kind gesture this police officer has displayed is a good step in making the country to scale back from all the social vices we are witnessing today”.
